Online store migration and integrations

Move to Shopify without losing search traffic, order history or a trading week, and connect the store to inventory, fulfilment and accounting so every order is handled once.

Quoted after scopingLaunches and migrations typically A$8,000–25,000Depends on catalogue and integration complexity. Integration-only work is often a sprint from A$3,000. GST treatment confirmed on quote.

Two different buyers, one page

Migrating: you are on WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Neto, Wix or a custom build and need to be on Shopify with nothing important left behind.

Connecting: you are already on Shopify but stock, orders or invoices move between systems by hand, and it is costing you customers or staff hours.

Migration

What a migration to Shopify covers

  1. Inventory of what exists

Crawl of the current site, export of products, variants, customers, orders, discounts, gift cards and content. Analytics review to find the pages that earn traffic and the ones that can be retired.

  2. Written plan and risk list

Data mapping, URL and redirect strategy, integration cut-over order, what customers will notice (password resets, new checkout), and a timeline around your trading calendar.

  3. Build and migrate

Theme set-up on Shopify, catalogue and customer import with checks, redirects loaded and tested, payments, shipping zones and taxes configured for Australian trading.

  4. Cut-over and aftercare

Launch in a quiet week, DNS switch, full order test, indexing and top-page checks, then two weeks of fixes included.

Integrations

Connecting the store to the systems that run the business

The goal is that an order is entered once, stock is true in every place it is shown, and the accountant stops asking for spreadsheets.

Inventory and warehouse

Stock levels flowing from the warehouse, point of sale or inventory system into Shopify, with a defined source of truth, safety buffers for shared stock and alerts when a sync fails rather than silent drift.

Fulfilment and shipping

Orders pushed to a 3PL or in-house pick-pack flow, tracking written back to the order and the customer notified, carrier rules and cut-offs reflected in what the store promises on the product page.

Accounting

Sales, fees, refunds and payouts posted to Xero or MYOB in a way the accountant agrees with before it is built, so month-end reconciliation becomes a check rather than a rebuild.

How integration work is priced. A single connection with a supported app or API usually fits a sprint from A$3,000. Multi-system work, custom middleware or a 3PL without an API is quoted after scoping. Every integration quote includes monitoring and a failure plan, because the expensive part of an integration is not building it, it is not noticing when it stops.

Inventory drift is a customer-service problem before it is a technical one; this article explains where the work comes from and how to stop it.

Process and quoting

Scoping first, then a fixed quote

A scoping session of one to two hours, in person in Sydney or over screen-share, establishes catalogue size, data quality, the systems involved and what each can actually do through its API or app. You get a written quote with inclusions, exclusions, assumptions and the trading dates we are working around. Migrations are staged: 40% to start, 40% at test launch, 20% on cut-over.

The scoping session is charged at the review rate (from A$500) and credited against the project if it goes ahead.

Evidence and availability

What you can see, and when I can start

The demo store shows the delivery-information and stock-visibility patterns an integration makes possible, with fictional data. Case studies will be published only with merchant permission once real projects complete.

I am based in Sydney and take on one migration at a time alongside smaller sprints, so cut-over dates are planned months ahead and never during your peak. Tell me your trading calendar in the enquiry and I will tell you the earliest realistic start.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Will we lose search traffic when we migrate?

Some movement is normal for a few weeks; a loss that lasts usually comes from missing redirects, changed URL structures or thin new pages. The migration plan includes a full redirect map built from the old site's crawl and analytics, structured data carried across, and a post-launch check of indexing and the top landing pages. I will not promise rankings, but I will make sure nothing is left to chance on the technical side.

Can we keep our order history and customer accounts?

Orders and customers can be imported into Shopify so staff can see history, though customers will need to reset passwords because password hashes cannot be moved between platforms. Gift card balances, store credit and subscriptions need their own plan; they are the items most often forgotten.

Which inventory and accounting systems do you connect?

I work with Shopify's own APIs and the connectors offered by the systems merchants commonly run in Australia, including Xero and MYOB on the accounting side and warehouse, point-of-sale and 3PL systems that expose an API or a supported Shopify app. The scoping session establishes exactly what each system can do before I quote, because “it has an integration” often means less than it sounds.

When is the best time to migrate?

After your peak, not before it. I ask about promotion dates and change freezes at the first call and plan the cut-over for a quiet trading week. A pre-peak checkout and speed check on the existing store is a sensible use of the time before then.

Do you hand integration work to someone else?

No. Store-to-inventory and store-to-accounting work stays inside your The Store Check engagement with one accountable contact. Matthew also runs other specialist services under their own brands, but you will not be sent to a second brand to get your store connected.

Planning a move or a connection?

Send the store URL and a sentence about the systems involved. I reply within one business day with the questions I need answered before a scoping session, or with the free scorecard if your store is already on Shopify.
